The term “frozen shoulder” describes a condition when shoulder region is inflamed and painful. Symptoms include decreased range of shoulder motion, shoulder pain and shoulder stiffness.
The shoulder consists of a joint capsule which contains ligaments that hold the shoulder bones to each other. Frozen shoulder arises because the capsule becomes inflamed and the shoulder bones are unable to move freely.
Risk factors that can cause frozen shoulder include: cervical disk disease of the neck, diabetes, shoulder injury and shoulder surgery.
